Marcus Laron “Chuck” Gentry was born to Troy and Shirley Gentry on November 4, 1978 in Murfreesboro, AR, but he was raised in the Antoine community. Marcus was a happy boy growing up, and he was at his happiest when he played with his cousins in the surrounding area. Marcus was raised in the church, and he accepted Christ into his life. He became a member of Westside Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, AR, where he served faithfully his health failed him.
Marcus attended Delight Public Schools, where he was a member of the Delight Bulldogs basketball team, and graduated with the class of 1997. Marcus enjoyed and loved his classmates and remained close to them throughout his adult life. He was a very hard worker and loved providing for his family. Marcus held several jobs, some of which included Poulan Weed Eater, Morris Automotive, Chick-fil-a at OBU, and Rainbow of Challenges.
When Marcus was not working, he enjoyed hunting and hanging out with his hunting club, The Bottom Buck Deer Camp. He also enjoyed coaching his Pee-wee basketball team, and watching “westerns.” He loved watching his favorite basketball player LeBron James and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Marcus loved children and his greatest joy was being a father. He loved his younger cousins so much that he gave them all unique nicknames that only he called them by. Most of Marcus’s life was spent going to dialysis, and although, at times, he would be weak and not feel well, he had such zest for life that he kept going. He was a very gentle spirit who never complained about anything. If he was having a bad day you would never know it because he was always joking, trying to make others laugh, and wearing his infectious smile. Marcus loved food and amongst his favorites were lemon pie, four-layer delight, his mother’s pound cake, cheeseburgers and chicken fajitas. In all he loved and all he did nothing compared to his love for Christ and his family.
On August 7, 2018, in his 39th season, God saw Marcus was growing weary and granted him eternal rest. Marcus is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents (Norman Gentry Sr. and Oreather Haslip) and his maternal grandparents (Lewis and Charlene Tolliver).
