Marjorie Dudley Hunter, 94, departed this life on February 28, 2025, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana, TX. She was born on June 26, 1930, in Gurdon, Arkansas, to Thomas Dudley Sr. and Abigail Bankhead Dudley. Marjorie was the seventh of eight children—Thomas Jr., Etta, Evelyn, Arthur, Verda, Imogene, and Barbara—all of whom preceded her in death.

On June 15, 1947, Marjorie married the late Andrew Sterling Sr., and together they were blessed with eight children. She was preceded in death by her sons, Andrew Sterling Jr. and Winston Sterling as well as her daughters, Patricia Sterling and Deborah Sterling.

Marjorie received her early education in the public schools of Arkansas. Her passion for shaping young minds led her to pursue higher education, and in 1954, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Wayne State University. She devoted many years to teaching and was among the pioneering educators of the Head Start Program, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.

A devout Christian, Marjorie dedicated her life to her faith, accepting Christ at an early age. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ, actively participating in Sunday school teaching and church activities wherever she lived. Her kindhearted spirit and compassion made her a natural caregiver, always mindful of the well-being of those around her.

Marjorie selflessly cared for her parents and family members throughout her life. She instilled in her descendants the values of integrity, loyalty, kindness, generosity, and resilience—principles she embodied daily.

Outside of her professional and spiritual life, Marjorie was an avid sports fan. She found joy in driving, playing cards, fishing, dancing, bowling, softball, and dominos. After retirement, she devoted her time to what mattered most—her family. She cherished moments spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, finding immense joy in their presence.

Marjorie Hunter’s legacy lives on through those who celebrate her life: Daughters: Angela (John) Boss of Detroit, Michigan, and Gail (Leroy) Johnson of Texarkana, Texas Sons: Mozell Sterling and Ozell Sterling of Omaha, Nebraska; Twenty-two grandchildren, Forty-seven great-grandchildren, Eleven great great-grandchildren A host of extended family members and dear friends.
