Mary L. Post Kennedy Flowers

Hope, Arkansas

Mary Linda born on April 1, 1950, in Nevada County, the eighth of nine children to Dave Post and Maggie Taylor Post. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member St. Thomas Baptist Church in Prescott. 

Mary grew up to be a beautiful young lady. She attended Blevins Training School until moving to Fort Worth, Texas where she graduated from Dunbar High School in 1967. After graduating from high school, she attended Texas A&M University and ventured into various professions until joining the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1987.

Mary dedicated her career as an inspector for the USDA at Tyson Foods, where she was respected for her strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence. Her life's work was marked by a sense of duty and purpose that she carried into every aspect of her daily life. She retired in 2019.

She united with Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church and She was the mastermind and enjoyed planning family reunion and her home was often the place for plenty of food and family gatherings. She took pride in her home making it warm and inviting. Her hobbies included doing what she wanted to do, when she wanted to do it, designing t-shirts, and most recently she developed a love for fishing.

Mary was a faithful wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and a remarkable friend to many. She was outspoken and was all about business. She would often text and call family and friends to just check in and say hello. 

At the age of 74, she departed this life at her home on January 9, 2025. She lived a good life, and some looked at how she managed her life and saw it as a blueprint to be an even better mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Robert Post, Cellestean Post Phillips, James Post, Dave “Jack” Post, and Raymond “Tony” Post.

Memories will live on in the hearts of her husband, Curtis Flowers of Hope, Arkansas; one daughter, Temeka (Daryl) Broadway of Nashville, Arkansas; two sons, Shannon (Joyce) Jones of Texarkana, Arkansas and Wendell Hayden of Hope, Arkansas; her god son, Craig Jones; one sister, Rachel Vaughn of Hope, Arkansas; one brother, Ray Anthony (Dianna) Post of Los Angeles, California; two bonus daughters, Sharneque Flowers of Texarkana, Arkansas and Diamond Harper of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; a niece who she loved as a sister Helen Thompson of Little Rock, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church – 909 Rosston Road, Hope, Arkansas.

Mary's life will be celebrated with a home going service at the Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hope, Arkansas on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00 am with Rev. Russel Neal, eulogist. Friends, family, and community members are invited to gather and share in the remembrance of a woman who brought light, love, and laughter into the lives of all who knew her. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Elizabeth Cemetery in Prescott, Arkansas.
