Mattie Lee McClure

January 1, 1923 — May 12, 2018

Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Revelation 14:13

Mattie Lee Clayborn McClure was born on January 1, 1923, to Jackson Clayborn and Lena Duncan Clayborn in Springhill, Arkansas. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age.

She was a member of Clayborn Chapel A.M.E. Church. After moving to Lansing, Michigan she united with New Mt. Calvary Church under the leadership of Rev. Lonnie Chipp where she served as a mother of the church until her health befell her.

Mattie was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Theo McClure, Sr., on June 5, 1941. To this union ten children were born. On Saturday, May 12, 2018, the Lord closed her eyes and granted her rest. For 95 years she lived a simple, but full life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, two sons, Eddie McClure and an infant boy; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia “Peaches” McClure.

Her shining light and her beautiful smile will be forever missed by her children: James McClure of Lansing, MI, Theo McClure (Debbie) of Lansing, MI, Ethel Horton of Curtis, AR, Patricia Walker of Phoenix, AZ, Kenneth McClure (Phyllis) of Lansing, MI, Shelby McClure (Joyce) Tulsa, OK, Ray McClure (Linda) of Lansing, MI and Joe McClure of Lansing, MI; a daughter-in-law, Ann McClure of Lansing, MI; a brother, Samuel Clayborn of La Mirada, CA; twenty-five grandchildren, and thirty-three great-grandchildren She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
