Maxine Thomas Adams

March 5, 1941 — September 30, 2020

The beautiful and sweet life of Maxine Thomas Adams came to a close on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs. She was born Wednesday, March 5, 1941 in Okolona, Arkansas to the union of L.C. Thomas and Clara McDaniel Thomas.

She gave her life to Christ at a tender age and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She served with the WMU, as a choir member, and collected 5th Sunday banner offering. 

Maxine was a great cook and was known for her chocolate pie. Through the years she worked at Simmons School Cafeteria, Murfreesboro Nursing Home, Benson Nursing Home, Diamond Country Food’s, Tyson Foods and Delight Elementary School.

Some of her past times included watching NBA basketball games. Her favorite players were Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, and Lebron James. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, and working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed watching Maury, Tyler Perry Show “Madea Goes To Jail” and the Steve Harvey Show. Maxine had a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her laughter and beautiful smile will be missed by many.

Maxine Thomas met the love of life John L. Adams, and they were married on March 20, 1964.

Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.C. Thomas and Clara McDaniel Thomas; grandson, John Alfred Adams and sister, Aline Carthan.

She leaves her husband, John Adams Sr; three children, Dale Thomas (Mattie) of Texarkana, AR, John Adams, Jr. (Alma) of Texarkana, AR and Lisa Adams (Robert) of Arkadelphia, AR; eight grandchildren, Remond Thomas, Lakenya Thomas, Jakeela Thomas, Kyndra Stafford, Heather Scoggins, Tia Gulley, John Adams III, Christian Adams; and ten great-grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Lois Johnson of Brunswick, GA, and Charlene Leeper of Okolona, AR; one brother, Charles (Doris) Thomas of Flint, MI; her sister-in-law, Christine Murdock of Chicago, IL and brothers-in-law, Raymond (Evelyn) Adams of Malvern, AR, Rufus Wood, Sr., of El Dorado, AR, and Ed Carthan of Okolona, AR; special friends, Mae Sue Williams, Dorothy Meeks, Sally Williams, Kathleen Cole and Shirley McDaniel; special cousin, Willie James McDaniel; special nieces, Diana Leeper, Debbie Thomas, Mary Carthan, Clara “Pumpkin” Dixon and Matasha Waters; those she raised as her own, Ethan Waters, “Little” James, Ionna McGhee, Josiah “JoJo” Craven, as well as, her best buddy and friend, Rev. R. Hatley, Sr.

Bearers of the casket will be Charlie Smith, Jason McDaniel, Dedric Jones, Kendall McDaniel, Gregory McGhee and Courtney Leeper. Honorable to mention are Timothy Leeper, Bobby Dixon, Allen Burton, Malik Jones, Braeden Thomas, Ethan Waters and Cornelius Dixon.

Public visitation will be 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home, 1626 Logan Street. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Rufus Hatley, Sr, officiating.
