Michael Allen Jones

January 30, 1964 — October 7, 2024

Arkadelphia, Arkansas

Michael Allen Jones was born on January 30, 1964, in Arkadelphia, AR to the union of Gale Jones and Louise Macon Jones. He was a 1982 graduate of Arkadelphia High School and a very smart and talented student.

Mike had a special gift! As a child, he never brought home any books or homework, and made “Straight A’s” all through school! It was something so special about him that his science and biology teachers tried to encourage him to become a doctor, but that was not Mike's passion.

He was an avid outdoors person and absolutely loved the outdoors. He found his passion and became a master of ALL trades. He worked for the maintenance and grounds department at Henderson State University and later worked as an independent contractor. He was a carpenter, plumber, electrician, mechanic and much, much more! He made many friends as he was so giving and willing to help anyone and often with no fees attached.

He will forever be remembered as “The Real Mike Jones”. Most might wonder how he got that name! After attending a blues concert, in Little Rock he took over the stage, and they named him “The Real Mike Jones”. Mike was truly the life of the party! He loved dancing and always showed put! He left his mark for dancing to many of his friends and family. He was often imitated, but never duplicated.

At the young age of 60 and after a long strong fight with two different types of cancer. Mike passed peacefully on to Glory with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his Father Gale Jones Sr. (June 30, 2022); daughter, Erika Harrison Jones, brothers, Willis Wayne Jones (August 25, 1991) and Donald Ray Jones (May 8, 2022).

Michael leaves behind to cherish his precious memories, his mother, Louise Jones; his daughter, McKenzie Jones; son Kalan Jones; Alexis Buckley whom he loved as a daughter; siblings, Norma Jones, Gale Jones Jr. (Gloria), Cynthia Jones, Eldridge Jones (Victoria), Carolyn Owens (Kirk) and his companion, Terri Clayborn-King. He also leaves his special aunt and uncle, Queenie and Carl Cooks; special cousin, Odessa and Terrance Matlock; his nurse, Markita Box of Elite Hospice; his good buddy, Doris Gleason, as well as a host of loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends are asked to wear yellow and black. Yellow represents sarcoma or bone cancer.

Pallbearers will be Mike Whitaker, Carlos Whitaker, Kendall Quarles, Jason Bullock, Jerome Macon, William Owens, Fredrick Owens, and Fred Lewis Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be the AHS Class of 1982.
