Services commemorating the life of Otis Meadows, Jr. will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Williams Funeral Home with Presiding Elder James H. Giles, Sr., eulogist. Services will include Military Honors by the United States Marine Corps.
Otis Meadows, Jr. was born July 1, 1948, to Benice Hart and Otis Meadows, Sr. in San Francisco, California. Otis was raised in a Christian home. He grew up in Wilmington, California where he was a proud graduate of the Phineas Banning High School, Class of 1965.
In 1966, Otis enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1969. While stationed in California, Otis married Nona L. Horsley and to this union, a beautiful baby girl was born, Laconia Danette. She was the apple of their eye.
Otis was very sure of what he wanted and the direction he was heading in. He wasn’t much for city living, he always liked the country. Enjoying the gifts of nature, he preferred to reside where there was plenty of fresh air and sunshine; wide open spaces. Later in life, he moved to Clark County Arkansas where many of his family members, the Harts, resided. He enjoyed listening to the sounds of Miles Davis, music from the ’70s, staying current with local, state, and national government, and the latest stock market investments.
Otis will be remembered by family and friends for the joy he brought into their lives, always imparting a kind word along with solid advice, being positive, and never passing judgment. Otis had very strong opinions on how he saw things and what he believed in. He was indeed a man of his word.
He quietly passed from this life on October 22, 2022. Otis is proceeded in death by his parents, Benice Hart and Otis Meadows, Sr. He is survived by his daughter Laconia (Bill) Fennessy of Long Beach, CA; five sisters, Nancy Norman, LaRhonda Choice, Margaret Meadows, all of Compton CA; Ellen Theresa Peebles, and Charlotte Cooper, both of Los Angeles, CA. He also leaves a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
