Randolph VanHook Sr. (December 30, 1955 – October 17, 2024) was a remarkable individual whose presence lit up the lives of those around him. Born to Harvey Gene VanHook and Irene Haynie, Randolph embodied the spirit of a true southern gentleman—generous, caring, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His infectious laughter and warm personality made him a beloved figure in the community. He was a force of nature, a people person, a mentor, known for his contagious jovial personality. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Cheryl, and together they blended a family that will forever carry his spirit. Randolph was the proud father of four: Brian, Carlos (Talitha), Randolph Jr. (RJ), and Jasmine. He is also a doting grandfather to six grandchildren: Colby, Malik, Carly, Bri’An, Vyson, and Viviannii. Serving as a father figure to many other family members and loved ones, many of his favorite times were spent enjoying moments with his beloved family.
Randolph was a member of Ward Chapel AME Church in Prescott, Arkansas, and spent his working years as a heavy machine operator and truck driver for Stovall Contractors & Bridgestone (Firestone) Building Products. After retiring, he generously dedicated his time to the community by driving for the CADC, helping others to reach their medical appointments. His compassion for people was only matched by his passion for sports.
A proud graduate of Prescott High School, Randolph was recently inducted into the Prescott Hall of Fame for his football achievements and the Southwest Hall of Fame for his contributions to softball. He was not only a force on the field but also a coach and mentor to countless young athletes in football, baseball, and track. His spirited cheers for the Prescott Curley Wolves, especially his rallying cry of “Go Wolves Go!! Already!!”, will forever echo in the hearts of those who heard them.
Randolph was the ultimate sports enthusiast—a trash talker extraordinaire with an unyielding loyalty to the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Lakers, and New York Yankees. His love for the game was contagious, and he was always ready to debate stats and player performances with anyone daring enough to engage.
Known affectionately as “Hook” or “Juvie”, Randolph was a larger-than-life character, the life of the party. He had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and loved, treating friends like family. He considered his circle of close friends and in-laws to be his brothers and sisters. Together they shared countless laughs, stories, and unforgettable moments.
Randolph was also a proud Prince Hall Grand Lodge Mason, a member of Evergreen Lodge #29, and enjoyed the camaraderie of the Good Fellows Hunting and Fishing Social Association. His love for music—especially the blues and Southern soul—could be heard blaring from his speakers, with Barry White's "Practice What You Preach" and Johnnie Taylor's "These Last $2" among his favorites.
His sense of humor was unmatched, he was known to be the life of the party. Whether telling a joke, sharing a story, or simply being present, he made an indelible mark on everyone who crossed his path.
The beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend departed this world surrounded by his loving family at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 17, 2024. He leaves behind a void that can never be filled, yet his spirit, humor, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey; grandmother, Elsie; and brother, Harold. He is survived by his mother, Irene; his loving wife and children; a remarkable lineup of siblings: Linda “Dottie” Morgan, Betty Young, Nancy Boyd, Kenneth VanHook (Cinda), Janet VanHook, Richard “Dwight” Hayes (Sherrie), Freddy VanHook (Elatris), Beverly VanHook, Pamela Dixon, Stephanie Bogan (Sam), Keith VanHook (Cokeisha), Phyllis Washington and Michael Adams as well as a host of brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
