Stanley Dean Quarles known as “Jim” passed from this life on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at John McClelland VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. A service of celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Mt. Olive AME Church in Dalark where Rev. TheResa Ngantchie is the pastor and Rev. C. O. Dansby will render the eulogy. The interment will be at Piney Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Public viewing will be Friday, August 2, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home at the historic Manse of the West End Presbyterian Church. Stanley was born on June 8, 1947 in Dalark, Arkansas. His mother Bennie Jean Quarles taught her sons the value of hard work. He accepted Christ at a tender age and was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive AME Church. He was a 1966 graduate of Sparkman Training School and was a well-known baseball player who played with community teams.
He enlisted into the United States Army on November 14, 1966 where he earned the National Service Defense Medal and the GCMLD. After the military he returned to Dalark and married the love of his life, Charlotte Johnson on February 15, 1974 and two children were born to this union, Teela and Nicholas. In 1978 he graduated top of his class from truck driving school in Columbus, Ohio and worked as a truck driver with Acme brick for 15 years until his retirement.
“Jim” was an outgoing man who enjoyed fishing, hunting and he loved baseball. He loved being in the company of his family and friends. He loved getting together with family and reminiscing about back in the day.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bennie Jean Quarles and his brother, Larry Quarles.
Jim’s memory will live on in the hearts of his wife of 45 years, Charlotte; his children, Tamera Primm Molden of Little Rock, Teela Quarles-Starks (Geoffrey) of North Ridge, CA and Nicholas Quarles (Tequila) of Bryant, AR; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four brothers, Robert Starks (Flora) of St. Louis, MO, Kenneth Quarles (Oleather) Of Dalark, AR, Carl E. Quarles (Gearnis) of Dalark, AR and Ronald Quarles of Dalark, AR. He also leaves his aunt Shevie Quarles; a special cousin, Lynn Jackson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Carl Quarles, Jr., Keyon Starks, Kendall Quarles, Darrin Miller, Jerel Yarber and Willie Jackson. The honorary pallbearers will be Roy Johnson Jr., Bobby Neal, Dennis Johnson, Donnie Yarber, Felix Newburn and Randy Quarles.
