My Life's Journey

“When I come to the end of my journey and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?”

Life’s journey began for Willie Lee when he was born February 4, 1951, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was the second of seven children born to the union of Willie and Mary Jane Jones Smith.

Willie was raised in the Mt. Morriah Community and confessed his faith in Christ at a young age. He united with Mt. Morriah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Vernon R. Moody, Sr.

Willie moved to Courtyards Gardens and won the hearts of the administration, staff and other residents. He worked there on his own accord escorting families that were visiting through the facility, and assisting other residents around the facility. He was the warm smile that greeted guest. He had a cherished garden that he tended on a regular basis. He did things his way and at most times his way was the only way.

In his spare time, he enjoyed the company of his family and close friends. He loved to entertain, be entertained and particularly loved dominoes. He was a lover of peanut butter cookies, grapes and Burger King.

Above all, Willie Lee will be remembered for the love he had for his family and his true friendship. He was preceded in transition by his parents, Willie Smith and Mary Jane Smith; and three brothers, Charles Smith, George Smith, Charles Smith and James Smith. Willie Lee passed on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in his 69th season of life.

His memory will live in the hearts of his two children; Calvin Joe Smith of Monroe, LA and Marcus Smith and his fiancé, Kina of Arkadelphia, AR; two grandchildren, Marquesha Smith and Marcus Smith, Jr.; one sister, Alberta Beard (Claudie) of Arkadelphia and two brothers, Wardell Smith (Mary) of Nashville, TN and Davis Smith (Debbie) of Nashville, TN. He also leaves a special friend, Ed Newburn, as well, as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Vernon Ro. Moody, Sr., officiating.
